Research Objectives
In modern technologies, the need for compact products derived from materials which exhibit properties based on a molecular or nanoscale organization, is rapidly growing. The development of new applications in this area requires, as a first step, the introduction at a molecular level of specific functionalities aimed at the generation of specific chemical and physical (electrical and optical) properties. In addition, it is also necessary a study of such properties as a function of the aggregation state, and more in general of the interactions between molecules or nano-structures and surfaces of other materials. For such reasons, expertieses coming from different backgrounds must converge when considering the development of functional materials. The creation of a "Centro di Eccellenza" is an occasion for the integration of different activities in the field of nanostructured functional materials already carried out within the University of Calabria, since it will set common goals and bring together complementary competence and equipment. It is our goal to structure within the "Centro di Eccellenza" the following laboratories:a) Synthesis and Characterization of Materials (LASCAMM Laboratory)b) Synthesis and Reactivity of Functionalized Membranes (RMF Laboratory)c) Optical, Electrooptical and Surface Phenomena of Liquid Crystals (LICRYL Laboratory)which are part of the Chemistry (a), Chemical and Materials Engineering (b) and Physics (c) Departments. The activities of such>>>
