Description
Aims of our working group are:1) to evaluate the efficacy of mechanical distribution of arthropods in greenhouse crops;2) to study a new prototype of mechanical distribution of arthropods;3) to evaluate in laboratory the quality of released arthropods.Planned activities of first year:-updating of the recent experiments on mechanical distibution of arthropods by bibliographic research-studing of the metodologies to evaluate the efficacy of mechanical distribution on arthropods;-choice of experimental plots, including greenhouses of the Emilia-Romagna region.-lab trails, with the cooperation of DEIAGRA (University of Bologna). The aims of lab experiments are to evaluate the influence of vermiculite and other materials on the efficacy of mechanical distribution, and to carry out a quality control procedures.-preliminary trails to compare the mechanical distribution and manual distribution of arthropods, in agreement with DEIAGRA (University of Bologna). The following beneficials will be evaluated: 1)Phytoseiulus persimilis, predator of two spotted spider mite (Tetranichus urticae) on strawberry (rate: 8-15 predators per square meters), cucurbits in protected crops (rate: 8-15 15 predators per square meters) and evaluation ot the possibilities of mechanical distribution in open field; 2) Orius laevigatus, predatorof thrips, in protected crops (rate: 1-2 15 predators per square meters). Planned activities of second year:-progress and improvement of the first year trials, considering previous results of mechanical distribution in greennhouse. - to conclude the laboratory experiments about quality control of released arthropods.-comparison of the results obtained in the project with the results of the other working groups.
