Description
The topics of research of the Local Research Unit are threefold:1) Exegesis, reception and tradition of Greek dramatic texts. First of all the Testimonia will be studied, to achieve a better interpretation of these texts. A particular attention will be paid to the fragments, analysed on a textual and exegetical level, without neglecting other aspects, such as their social and historical background. An example of that will be the analysis (carried out by Francesca Delneri) of the religious believing of the Greeks, according to what is handed down from the Ancient Comedy. The texts will be translated and accompanied by broad commentaries.2) Ancient exegesis. Various members of the Research Unit have been dealing with the interpretations of the classical dramatic texts (above all Comedy) produced from the Alexandrian (Eratostenes and Aristophanes of Byzantion) to the Byzantine Age. The research will focus on the examination of the Testimonia gathered by Kaibel and Koster, in order to publish some works, able to point out the importance of the ancient exegesis. 3) Reception of the dramatic texts. The Research Unit will study the reception of these texts in the late antiquity, with particular regard to Atticism, the Second Sophistry and, above all, Atheneus (an author long studied by the members of the Unit). The Greek Drama will be considered, in particular, with regard to the reception of gnomic topoi and of the aphoristic genre in Western Literature (with works similar to the ones already published by the Head of the Project).
