Description
In the next two years the research will be centred on:1. rhetorical devices in ancient Greek theatre and, vice versa, theatrical elements in oratory and in rhetorical theory (tragic quotations in the speeches of Aeschines and Lycurgus; tragicians and theatrical myths in the progymnasmata; canon of the tragicians and role played by the tragicians in ancient school; theatrical elements in the panegyrics);2. latin translations of the Greek tragic plays (with special attention to Cicero) and survival of tragic myths in Roman age;3. evidence about different kind of shows in the Roman age, particularly in the so-called Second Sophistic up to Libanius;4. ancient critical evaluations on classical theatre from a literary point of view (Dio Chrysostomus) and interactions between rhetoric and philosophy in the judgement of theatrical and spectacular events.
