Freedom of religion and human rights in Afrika

Description
The activity of the research unit will consist of the following phases:
1. activation of research networks abroad.
2. general planning of research activities, distribution of research themes within research team and definition of responsibilities for each sector of investigation.
3. possible activation of mixed research groups, in cooperation with resea rchers from Mauritanian, Moroccan, and Tunisian universities.
4. training of all researchers involved in the research in the use of the platform "lavoro di gruppo COIS" (COIS work group). The platform will allow coordination of the work carried out by individual research team members. The training will be performed by the Interuniversity Consortium of Websites (CISI), that is associated with the research.
5. collection and selection of relevant pieces of legislation and judicial rulings.
6. gathering of all the necessary documentation, as to complete the rich materials available from the library of our department. The material will be collected through acquisitions and missions to other specialized research centers, besides resorting to paper and web collections realized by various research centers, but often fragmented and only partly available.
7. uploading the collected material on sites pre-arranged by the Interuniversity Consortium of Websites (CISI) in order to create a database partly available to the scientific community at large, and partly restrained to research team members.
8. coordination with the other research groups; cooperation with other centers that study related themes (through missions).
9. organization and/or participation in seminars and congresses;
10. analysis of the collected data in order to evaluate the degree of religious freedom and minority protection, the compliance with international standards on human rights, and the influence of Islamic law on State legislation.
11. publication both of the results of the research in the form of essays, in journals or in a single volume;
12. use of research results in teaching activities with the DIADI method of the COIS consortium. The method will help students' exchanges between Italian and research countries universities.
13. further wider dissemination of those results which would prove to be of interest to professionals, attorneys, judges, policy makers etc.
