With regard to the inquiry about historical and scientific culture of religious orders in Italy (XV-XVII centuries) the research team will pursue two aims: first of all the census of those authors who, each one by his own religious order's or congregation's point of view, wrote books about the general history of Church, the particular history of every religious order,the lives of saints (male and female), or, finally, who dealed with erudition's and science's topics.All that will let us be able to focus the percentage of each religious order's interests in such specific subjects.Then, it will be also possible to formulate some valuations about the more or less attendance of scientific and historical books compared with the traditional religious and theological litterature. These aims will be realized by an accurate analysis of the general data-base concerning the whole italian convent libraries at the end of XVI century.Close to these arguments the research team duty will be focused on a further study of the progress of vernacular language in this period.
In order to achieve these aims will be necessary the collaboration of external researchers with an high degree of historical and paleographic competencies.They will check the books and manuscripts lists of Vatican Library codes 11266-11326 and the data-base lists.In the same time the research team will go on consulting the printed and handwritten sources in other libraries and archives.
