Description
Considering the general purposes focused in the inter-university research programme - Integrated digital models in the city and
architecture's representation - according with the past research experiences and willing to keep a continuity with those, we want to
pursue a deepening concerning the themes of the architectural and urban representation in relation to the role of the "water" as a
conformative element; a relevant thematic field for many historical and contemporary architectural declinations.
The main theme is the representation of architectures and cities whereby the water constitutes a relevant element.
The achievement would be to build up an history, to locate significant cases, to underline original and significant contributions, to
figure out new scenarios - with particular emphasis for those open to an interdisciplinary dialogue between the culture of
architectural representation and the digital techno-culture - and to highlight the fundamental role of that element, the water, has
taken in the development of the city.
This issue can be traced back at various levels in different architectural fields.
First of all as document: the drawing as a document, as witness of the knowledge of our country's architectural and urban heritage.
This perspective is the main focus especially if considered in the larger context of the preservation and management of the artistic
and environmental heritage. In this setting the representation process needs a "widening", which implies the domain of necessary
knowledge in order to schedule the preservation and re-evaluation interventions.
From this foreword, gets out the necessity to improve the use of new digital instruments for the survey, the environmental and
architectural analysis, such as 3D scanning. In this fields new technologies make possible the elaboration of complex thematic
models that still need further studies for what concerns the cataloguing and classification of the acquired data. This issues can also
be found in the field of the design representation.
The digital techniques make possible interactive visualizations of the idea enlarging creative opportunities and manageable the
modification proposals. We do refer to the last generation modelling engines, interactive spatial environments, online multimedia
models.
The development of visualization systems introduced by the proficient relationship between architecture and new technologies will be
object of further researches within the previously focused theme.
The main goal of this research project is therefore the study and experimentation of the various representation means of cities and
architecture within their relation with "water element".
